What are Brownies?
Brownies are part of Girlguiding UK. It’s all about having fun and new adventures.
Can anyone join?
If you’re a girl aged between 7 and 10 then you can become part of Girlguiding UK – the biggest youth organisation for girls in the UK.
So what do Brownies do?
Most Brownie units meet once a week during term time for about an hour and a half. These meetings are action packed with games, crafts, singing, badge work, laughter and other activities, which often have been chosen by the Brownies themselves. In addition to these weekly meetings there are often lots of opportunities for Brownies to take part in special activities and events at the weekend and in the school holidays. These can range from a picnic in the park to a day trip to London.
Once a girl joins Brownies she will be able to experience a whole new world of interests, friends and adventure. As a Brownie she will take part in a programme of activities that will challenge her to do her best, to work with others, to learn new life skills and to enjoy herself.
Within Surrey West, many Brownie units also choose to go away on holiday or camp for up to a week at a time. These residential events are very popular with the Brownies and are often seen as the highlight of the Brownie calendar.
