All training is for adult volunteers and will be designed for you to learn skills to take part in further adventures with your units.
Bushcraft Training
Adult training to develop skills in the natural, outdoor environment. Learn age appropriate activities to be used with all sections such as:
- Fire lighting
- Whittling
- Safe use of axes & knives
- Outdoor cooking
Aimed at complete beginners & improvers who wish to learn the best way to transfer these skill to their unit.
We will be running a 1 day course at Herons Wey, Farnham. Dates to be confirmed, but please register your interest below.
Tomahawk & Angel throwing
A new and exciting addition to the Girlguiding activities. Activity leaders require 5 hours of training which includes:
- Range safety and set up including targets and stands
- Rules and risk assessments
- Types of hawks and axes
- Maintenance and storage
- Session types
- Practical time on the range

For 2024 we will be running 1 day training course . No prior experience is required, so please register your interest below.
Narrowboating Skipper Training
It may be life in the slow lane, but it is still an adventure. Under the Girlguiding narrow boating scheme leaders are required to:
- Attend a Girlguiding-approved narrowboating training course.
- Gain further experience of narrowboating and record it in your log book.
- Attend a Girlguiding-approved assessment course.
- Plan and complete an assessed boat journey.
If that floats your boat, we are looking at the potential to assist leaders in our county with training and qualification. Dates are usually to arranged to suit the participant. No prior experience is necessary, please register your interest for more information.
Paddlesport Instructor Training
If you have a passion for paddling, whether that is kayaking, canoeing or paddleboarding, why not consider training to take girls on the water?
We have ongoing opportunities for adults to train as Paddlesport Instructors at Paxmead Riverside Base in Shepperton. There is lots of information on the Paxmead website. Funding is available to assist with training costs.
Archery GB Instructor Award
We aim to host a GB Archery course at Herons Wey in Farnham every 1-2 years. This is a complete 2 day training course with everything you need to enable you to provide Archery sessions to Brownies, Guides and Rangers.
There is no requirement for previous experience, so please register your interest in attending a course, this helps us understanding demand within the county.
Walking Scheme
The Girlguiding walking scheme offers three levels of training to enable leaders to take girls walking in rural areas.
